The Indian peacock, known scientifically as *Pavo cristatus*, is India’s national bird. This vibrant, swan-sized bird features a distinctive fan-shaped crest of feathers, a white patch beneath its eye, and a long, slender neck. The male peacock is notably more colorful than the female, showcasing a shimmering blue chest and neck, and an impressive bronze-green tail made up of around 200 elongated feathers. In contrast, the female is brownish, slightly smaller, and lacks the ornate tail. The male’s elaborate courtship display, which involves spreading out its tail feathers and preening, is a breathtaking spectacle.
