
Honorable Voice-President Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar
Jagdeep Dhankhar, born on May 18, 1951, is an Indian politician and lawyer who has been serving as the 14th Vice President of India since 2022. He was the Governor of West Bengal from 2019 to 2022 and held the position of Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs in the Chandra Shekhar ministry from 1990 to 1991. Dhankhar was a Member of Lok Sabha from 1989 to 1991 and later served in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly from 1993 to 1998. Throughout his career, he has been associated with various political parties in India, including the Bharatiya Janata Party, Indian National Congress, and Janata Dal.
Early Life
Dhankhar was born on May 18, 1950, in Kithana, a village in Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu district, into a Rajasthani Hindu Jat family, the son of Gokal Chand and Kesari Devi. He completed his schooling at Sainik School in Chittorgarh, having earlier attended Kithana Government School for his primary education and Ghardhana Government School for his middle school education. He earned his B.Sc and LLB degrees from the University of Rajasthan in Jaipur.
