Construction and Architecture
Emperor Akbar started building Agra Fort in 1565. He selected red sandstone as the primary material and created a massive walled structure. Later, his grandson Shah Jahan added marble palaces and intricate carvings, which added elegance to its strength.
The fort spreads over 94 acres and features high walls that rise up to 70 feet. The architecture blends Islamic and Hindu styles. It includes beautiful courtyards, mosques, halls, and gardens. Historical Importance
Agra Fort played a key role in Indian history. Several important battles and power shifts took place within its walls. The fort served as the main residence of the Mughal emperors until 1638, when the capital shifted to Delhi.
