Cactus Garden

The Cactus Garden, now officially known as the National Cactus and Succulent Botanical Garden and Research Centre, is located in the heart of Panchkula, a satellite town of Chandigarh. The garden was established with the goal of preserving and conserving endangered species of cacti and succulents, while also serving as an attraction for tourists. Covering an area of seven acres, it is recognized as Asia’s largest outdoor garden dedicated to cacti and succulents, featuring over 2,500 species.

The garden boasts a vast collection of Indian succulents, including some of the rarest species, many of which are listed as endangered. Among its most notable collections is a complete set of the *Caralluma* genus, native to India. The garden also houses three greenhouses that support the growth of these plants. Many of the cacti and succulents have medicinal properties, with Indian succulents being used in traditional Ayurveda and Unani medicine for centuries.

This unique garden attracts not only tourists but also botanists and plant enthusiasts. It remains open daily from April to September, with visiting hours from 9 AM to 1 PM and 3 PM to 7 PM. During the months of October to March, the garden operates from 9 AM to 1 PM and 2 PM to 6 PM. The entry fee is Rs. 10 per person.
