Chuimai Pond and Water Tank is a historic and scenic complex located in Nuh. It features a rectangular, ancient water tank (talab) with a red stone cenotaph (chattri) adorned with intricate carvings. The complex includes a covered entrance with arcades, two historic temples, and the beautifully designed stepped water body or talab. Eight small, octagonal chattris surround the talab, originally planned by Seth Chuhimal, a wealthy merchant (nagarseth) of Nuh. Additionally, a double-story chattri made of Bharatpur stone, decorated with floral inscriptions, honors Seth Chuhimal. The descendants of Seth Chuhimal actively preserve and maintain the talab, keeping its legacy alive.
History
Seth Chuhimal, a prosperous merchant and philanthropist of Nuh, conceived and developed the Chuimai Pond and Water Tank during the late 19th century. He envisioned the talab as a center for community gatherings and religious activities, reflecting the architectural and cultural heritage of the region. Over time, the structure evolved into a symbol of Nuh’s rich history and craftsmanship, showcasing the intricate stonework and designs of the era. Later, Seth Chuhimal’s descendants constructed the double-story chattri to honor his contributions to the community. Today, the complex stands as a vivid reminder of the region’s historical significance and the enduring legacy of its creators.
