Introduction to Parambikulam Tiger Reserve
Parambikulam Tiger Reserve, located in the Palakkad and Thrissur districts of Kerala, South India, is a vital ecological region within the Western Ghats. The reserve spans a total area of 643.66 square kilometers (248.5 square miles) and incorporates the former Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary, which initially covered 285 square kilometers (110 square miles). The sanctuary was established in parts in 1973 and 1984 and was officially included in the Parambikulam Tiger Reserve on February 19, 2010.
