Early Life and Education

Mohan Charan Majhi was born on January 6, 1972, in Raikala village, located in the tribal district of Keonjhar, Odisha. He belongs to the Santali tribal community, which has long played a vital role in the cultural fabric of the state. Growing up in a humble background, Majhi experienced the daily challenges of rural life, which later shaped his understanding of grassroots issues.

He pursued his early education in his hometown and showed a keen interest in academics and community service. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Chandra Sekhar College in Champua and later completed his Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Dhenkanal Law College. Alongside his studies, he worked as a teacher at a Saraswati Shishu Mandir, a school affiliated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), where he contributed to educating rural children.

From a young age, Majhi actively engaged in local governance and development. In 1997, he took his first step into public service by becoming the sarpanch of Raikala Gram Panchayat, marking the beginning of his political journey.

Mohan Charan Majhi’s political career gained momentum when he was elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly for the first time in 2000 from the Keonjhar constituency as a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He repeated his electoral success in 2004, 2019, and 2024, making him a four-time MLA.

Following the BJP’s historic victory in the 2024 Odisha Assembly elections, the party selected Majhi as the 15th Chief Minister of Odisha, marking the first time a BJP leader held this position in the state. He assumed office on June 12, 2024, and quickly formed his cabinet, focusing on tribal welfare, infrastructure, and education.
