Bajali district in Assam is administratively divided into two revenue circles: Bajali Revenue Circle and Sarupeta Revenue Circle, and two development blocks:
- Bajali
- Bhawanipur
Additionally, the district includes numerous villages and gram panchayats, forming the backbone of its rural governance. These divisions ensure efficient administration and delivery of government services across the district.
Creation and Reorganization of Bajali District
Bajali district, located in the Indian state of Assam, came into existence after being partitioned from the Barpeta district. On August 10, 2020, the Assam Cabinet, led by then Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, approved the proposal to elevate it to a full-fledged district. Officials officially declared it a district on January 12, 2021. However, on December 31, 2022, the Assam government reintegrated the district back into the existing Barpeta district.
Reinstatement and Current Status
On August 25, 2023, the Assam Cabinet announced its decision to reinstate Bajali’s district status. Subsequently, on October 12, 2023, the district officially regained its status as a district. The district now includes areas from the Bajali, Jalah, and Sarupeta circles. People recognize Dolor Pathar as the most well-known village in the district, while Pathsala serves as its main town.
