According to the 2011 Census of India, People in the South Goa district speak three main languages: Konkani (66.44%), Hindi (12.38%), and Marathi (6.45%). Primarily, people speak Konkani in South Goa.  Additionally, people also speak English.

According to the 2011 Census of India, 65.86% of the population of North Goa speaks Konkani, 14.36% speaks Marathi, and 8.65% speaks Hindi. Again Konkani is the official language of the district.

Konkani:

Konkani is an Indo-Aryan language spoken primarily in the coastal regions of India, especially in Goa, Karnataka, and Maharashtra. The Konkani script has multiple variations, including Devanagari, Roman, and Kannada scripts. Among these, people most commonly use the Devanagari script for writing Konkani. This script consists of 12 vowels and 33 consonants. Additionally, it is known for its distinctive horizontal line at the top of the letters, which is typical of Sanskrit-based alphabets.

Hindi:

Hindi is an Indo-Aryan language that uses the Devanagari script for writing. The script contains 12 vowels and 33 consonants, along with additional characters for diacritical marks. Furthermore, Devanagari is a syllabic script, meaning each character represents a syllable. In addition, its distinctive horizontal line runs across the top of the letters, making it easily recognizable. As one of the most spoken languages in India, Hindi primarily uses this script for both formal and informal writing, thereby ensuring its widespread use across different contexts.

Marathi:

The people of Maharashtra use Marathi as the official language of the state, and India recognizes it as one of the 22 scheduled languages. Moreover, Marathi has a rich literary heritage, with saints like Dnyaneshwar and Tukaram contributing in the 13th century. Writers use the Devanagari script to write Marathi, and its vocabulary and grammar are influenced by Sanskrit, Prakrit, and regional dialects. Additionally, the language is known for its extensive literature, including poetry, novels, and plays.
