Tamulpur was an administrative district in the Bodoland Territorial Region of Assam, one of the northeastern states of India. The district’s administrative headquarters was located in Tamulpur. On 2021, under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Assam Cabinet approved the proposal to make Tamulpur a full-fledged district. Subsequently, on January 23, 2022, the district was officially created.

Merger with Baksa District
On December 30, 2022, the Assam government decided to merge Tamulpur with Baksa district, effectively ceasing its existence as an independent district from January 1, 2023. This decision was made prior to the delimitation process in the state.
Re-Creation of Tamulpur District
However, on August 25, 2023, the Assam government announced the decision to recreate Tamulpur as a district once again, covering both the Tamulpur and Goreswar Assembly seats. This move marks a significant change in the district’s administrative status and reflects the ongoing evolution of governance in Assam.
