Bogibeel Bridge

The Bogibeel Bridge is a significant rail-cum-road bridge in Assam, India, that spans the Brahmaputra River, connecting the towns of Dibrugarh in the south and Tinsukia in the north. This bridge holds strategic importance as it not only facilitates transportation between the two regions but also connects the northeastern part of India with the rest of the country, enhancing connectivity and trade. The Bogibeel Bridge is one of the longest of its kind in India, measuring 4.94 kilometers in length. It was inaugurated on December 25, 2018, after over 16 years of construction.

This bridge is remarkable for its design, as it has a double-decker structure, with railways on the lower deck and roadways on the upper deck. The Bogibeel Bridge significantly reduces travel time between the two districts and improves accessibility to Arunachal Pradesh and other parts of northeastern India. It also provides essential infrastructure for defense and military logistics due to its strategic location near the China and Myanmar borders.

Bogibeel Ghat

Bogibeel Ghat is the river port and ferry terminal located near the Bogibeel Bridge, situated on the southern bank of the Brahmaputra River. It serves as a vital transit point for people and goods traveling between the districts of Dibrugarh and Tinsukia, and it was historically a key crossing point before the construction of the bridge. The Ghat is especially important for transporting goods, such as tea, oil, and agricultural products, to different parts of the region.

With the completion of the Bogibeel Bridge, the significance of the ferry service at Bogibeel Ghat has decreased in terms of cross-river travel. However, it still serves as a backup route for travel and freight, contributing to the region’s transport network.
