Edapally Church Complex

St. George’s Syro-Malabar Forane Church, commonly referred to as Edapally Church, is a prominent Catholic pilgrimage site located in Edapally, Kochi, Kerala, India. People recognize it as the largest shrine dedicated to Saint George in Asia, drawing about five million visitors each year.

The church dates back to 593 AD, making it one of the oldest churches in Kerala, following the seven churches that Thomas the Apostle founded in the first century AD. Initially, people dedicated it to Marth Mariam (the Virgin Mary). In 1080, they constructed a new church next to the original building. Every year, the church hosts a nine-day festival to celebrate the Feast of Saint George on April 23. The church also attracts non-Christian visitors and is known for the offerings of gold, chickens, and eggs.
