Hill Palace is an archaeological museum and palace situated in the Tripunithura area of Kochi, Kerala. It is the largest archaeological museum in the state and served as the official residence and administrative office for the Cochin Maharaja. Constructed in 1865, the palace complex spans 54 acres (220,000 m²) and includes 49 buildings designed in traditional architectural style. Within the complex, you can find an archaeological museum, a heritage museum, a deer park, a prehistoric park, and a children’s park.
The museum’s grounds feature a variety of rare medicinal plants. Currently, the palace has been transformed into a museum managed by the Kerala State Archaeology Department and is open to the public. It is located approximately 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) from the city center and is accessible by both road and rail.
Additionally, the site houses the Centre for Heritage Studies (CHS), an autonomous research and training institution established by the Kerala Government’s Department of Cultural Affairs. The CHS serves as both a Manuscript Conservation Centre (MCC) and a Manuscript Resource Centre (MRC) under the National Mission for Manuscripts.
