History

Panaji serves as the capital of Goa. The historical significance of Margão (the commercial capital) reflects the lasting cultural impact of the Portuguese presence. The Portuguese arrived in the early 16th century as merchants. And later, they established dominion over the region, transforming it into one of their overseas territories. This colonial rule endured for approximately 456 years until India took control in 1961.

Tourism

It attracts a large number of both international and domestic tourists annually to its pristine white-sand beaches, vibrant nightlife, religious landmarks, and architecturally significant sites listed as World Heritage. Its proximity to the rainforests of the North Western Ghats enhances its rich variety of flora and fauna. The state is located near one of the most unique biodiversity hotspots.
